Fr. George Athanasiou is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in Oakland in 2004, he went on to begin his studies at Hellenic College where he received his BA in Religious Studies in 2008. Continuing on to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, he graduated with his Master of Divinity in 2011.

After an additional year of studies at HCHC, George interned at the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh until he accepted a position as Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland Heights, OH. From August of 2013 through July of 2017 he served the Cathedral and as Pastoral Assistant at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in North Royalton, OH (11 months).

On January 1, 2019 George began his ministry as Pastoral Assistant here at All Saints. On February 18, 2019, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Pittsburgh (his home parish) and was officially assigned to our All Saints Parish.  On June 20, 2020 with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, Deacon George was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Grace Bishop Andrei of Cleveland (in the absence and representation of Metropolitan Savas). Fr. George serves as our second priest under the direction and mentorship of Fr. Livanos.

Fr. George is very involved on a local Metropolis and national Archdiocesan levels. He serves as secretary of the Clergy Syndesmos of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh. He also serves as secretary of the Alumni Association of Hellenic College & Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Fr. George is a member of the Metropolis of Pittsburgh Youth Commission and is the Co-Chair of the Metropolis GOYA Committee.
